The joy of music
Symposium on music education, 23 to 25 November 2018
As part of the city's 875th anniversary celebrations, a weekend symposium on music education entitled "The Joy of Music" will take place from 23 to 25 November 2018.
The venue is the Chemnitz Municipal Music School. Visitors can look forward to a weekend of lectures and concerts by talented young people. There will also be a workshop where you can try out instruments.
The aim is to inform and motivate people of all ages and backgrounds from Chemnitz and the region to take advantage of musical education programmes at public music schools and other institutions.
For example, Thomas Stöß, piano and composition teacher at the music school, composed a work for the youth ensemble "Streichhölzer" during the summer holidays, which will be premiered at the symposium.In addition, he will give a lecture on the lives and works of a number of 20th century composers who composed using traditional harmony rather than avant-garde techniques.
