"The Hoheneck women's prison" - travelling exhibition in Chemnitz town hall tells the story of 25 political prisoners

An exhibition on the history of 25 women who suffered as political prisoners in the former Hoheneck prison between 1950 and 1989 will be on display in the exhibition room of Chemnitz town hall at Markt 1 from 17 February to 8 March: "The Women's Prison of Hoheneck" - the title of the exhibition, which was conceived as a travelling exhibition - was created by author Maggie Riepl and photographer Dirk von Nayhauß on behalf of the Heinrich Böll Foundation. Twenty years after the closure of the notorious Hoheneck prison, 25 women who were imprisoned there as political prisoners have had their portraits taken and tell their stories.
The exhibition "The Hoheneck Women's Prison" in Chemnitz and the accompanying discussions with contemporary witnesses are organised by the Working Group of Social Democratic Women (ASF) Chemnitz with the support of the Heinrich Böll Foundation.
Citizens and representatives of the media are cordially invited to the opening event on Monday 17 February at 5 pm in the exhibition room of Chemnitz Town Hall. The exhibition will be opened by Hanka Kliese, Member of the Saxon State Parliament and Deputy Chairwoman of ASF Chemnitz.
Mayor Barbara Ludwig will attend the opening of the exhibition.
The vernissage on 17 February will be accompanied by an interview with Ellen Thiemann. A further discussion with contemporary witnesses is planned for the exhibition's closing: Invitations are extended for Saturday, 8 March, 10:30 am, for a talk with Sabine Popp. The discussion with both contemporary witnesses will be conducted by Hanka Kliese.
The exhibition can be viewed during the opening hours of the town hall at Markt 1 in Chemnitz: Mondays to Thursdays from 9 am to 5 pm, Fridays from 9 am to 4 pm. The exhibition room is located on the ground floor, access from the foyer (left) - admission is free of charge.
