The history of the aviation industry in Chemnitz and the surrounding area

The next event in the series "The City Archive invites you" will take place on Wednesday, 7 November at 6 pm. The topic of the evening is "The aviation industry in Chemnitz and the surrounding area from its beginnings to the present day". The speaker is aviation historian and publicist Karl-Dieter Seifert, Chemnitz. The lecture evening will take place in the Chemnitz Youth Hostel "eins" in the building at Getreidemarkt 1, 09111 Chemnitz. Admission is free.
The City Archive of Chemnitz provides information on the lecture: Chemnitz's history is also rich in events connected with aviation. One of the oldest German aviation clubs was founded here in the city and there was already an airfield in Altchemnitz before the First World War. The "Sachsenflug" became legendary before 1914 and several aeroplanes were built in the town. The companies in the powerful industrial city got involved, started building aircraft engines and the industrial academy also incorporated aviation into its work. Around 1960, aircraft engines were built in the industrial plant on Zwickauer Straße. According to the historian, despite many impulses, there were essentially only the beginnings of an aviation industry - why this was the case will also be the subject of the evening's lecture.
