On 11 November at 11.11 a.m., Mayor Sven Schulze will hand over the key to Chemnitz Town Hall in keeping with tradition. This heralds the start of the so-called "Fifth Season". The key is handed over to the jesters of the carnival clubs.
This year, too, the hustle and bustle in front of the main entrance to the New Town Hall will be colourful. The programme under the direction of the Faschingsclub an der Chemnitz e.V. begins at 10 am. All of the city's carnival clubs come together and heat up the atmosphere with more than just mulled wine: Carnival speeches, funkengarden, dancing and music will warm up the citizens of Chemnitz for the coming carnival.
After the speech with the invitation to hand over the keys at 11 a.m., Mayor Sven Schulze will have to take the floor and finally hand over the town hall keys to the carnival revellers at 11.11 a.m. sharp.
The programme for 2016 will once again be put together by the six carnival clubs of the City of Chemnitz:
the 1st Carnival Club an der Chemnitz, the Altchemnitz Carnival Club, Rosa Fasching Chemnitz, the Glösa Carnival Club, the Grüna Carnival Club and the Würschnitztal Carnival Club.
Citizens and representatives of the media are invited to attend the carnival at Neumarkt.
