Daniela Krien will be reading from her new novel "Der Brand" on Thursday, 14 October at 6 pm in the TIETZ Central Library. The reading will be hosted by Dr Tino Dallmann.

What to do when love gets older? When distance outweighs closeness? When passion and eroticism are just a memory? How easy is it to ask the big relationship questions in midlife, and what can an answer be? In her touching and intelligent new novel, Daniela Krien takes the reader into a marriage where everything is at stake: After almost thirty years, Rahel and Peter have lost each other. Three weeks on a lonely farm in the Uckermark are supposed to show whether there is still a way forward for them together. But in the sweltering heat of the summer, two city dwellers in a drop-out domicile, between dilapidated walls and a flock of injured animals, nothing positive happens at first. Thrown back on each other's company, anger and helplessness take over, the unspoken and the repressed come to light. Until the couple find a new understanding, new roles beyond the ones they have always had for each other - and their love (Diogenes 2021).
Daniela Krien, born in 1975 in Neu-Kaliß, attended evening school in Chemnitz from 1996 to 1999 and then studied cultural and media studies in Leipzig. She has been a freelance author since 2010 and published her novel "Irgendwann werden wir uns alles erzählen" in 2011, which was made into a film by Emily Atef. Her last novel "Die Liebe im Ernstfall" was on the bestseller list for months and has been translated into 25 languages. Daniela Krien lives in Leipzig with her two daughters.
