The debt brake under discussion
Adult education centre: Lecture on 2 December, 7 p.m., online
On Monday, 2 December, from 7 pm, interested parties are invited to an online lecture with the economist Prof. Dr Joachim Ragnitz. Under the title "Solid public finances in the crisis? On the discussion of the debt brake and current economic developments", he will categorise the positions in the federal government and in Saxony and provide information on the background to the current budget debates.

The economic and industrial map of Germany and Saxony is changing. This also has an impact on public budgets and financial planning. Dwindling public finances coupled with a wide range of upheavals in the economy and industry and the challenges of climate change are being discussed - currently centred around a debt brake in the constitution and a sustainable investment policy, among other things. Among other things, the debate centres on the question of whether a limit on borrowing for the federal and state governments is still appropriate and what objectives could be used to justify a relaxation.
In his online lecture, Prof Dr Joachim Ragnitz explains in detail how these changes can be classified and the challenges facing Saxony's politics, economy and society in particular. Prof Dr Joachim Ragnitz is Deputy Director of the Dresden branch of the ifo Institute and Honorary Professor of Economics, in particular Finance, at the Technical University of Dresden. He has been researching economic policy developments for many years and contributes to current debates.
