The current state of democracy in Poland

On Monday, 25 March, from 7 to 8.30 pm, the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre, together with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation's Saxony Political Education Forum, invites interested parties to a lecture entitled "On the current state of democracy in Poland" in TIETZ, Room 4.07. The lecture is free of charge.

Many observers associate the parliamentary elections in Poland on 15 October 2023 with a fundamental political change of course, which will, however, encounter major difficulties in its implementation. Some of the foundations of democracy will have to be fought for anew, and this against the resistance of the former ruling party. Poland's role in the European Union and its relationship with neighbouring Germany are also up for discussion.
In the lecture, political scientist Prof Dr Stefan Garsztecki will explain and justify his current assessments of the political situation in Poland following the parliamentary elections in October 2023. He will also provide information on the political change and the difficult new beginning following the opposition's election victory. Afterwards, he would like to enter into dialogue with his audience.
Prof Dr Stefan Garsztecki holds the Chair of Cultural and Area Studies of East Central Europe at Chemnitz University of Technology and has been researching the topics of the evening for many years.
The event is part of the series on Poland, which will take place from 11 to 27 March as the first country special on the annual theme "Focus: Europe" at the adult education centre.
