The colours of minerals
Lecture on perfect shapes and impressive colour phenomena of minerals on 17 October, 6.30 pm in the TIETZ, event hall
On Wednesday, 17 October, 6.30 pm, the Friends of the Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz e. V. invites you to a lecture in the TIETZ, event hall, 3rd floor. Admission is free.
Under the title "The Colours of Minerals", Dr Paul Rustemeyer will provide insights into the world of perfect minerals with intense colours. In his naturally colourful lecture, the speaker will look at the causes of colour phenomena. Visitors will learn how we humans perceive colours, what light does to minerals and why, for example, amethyst changes colour when heated and exposed to UV radiation. Rustemeyer also sheds light on the colour diversity of copper minerals and clearly explains that our perception of colour always depends on the direction in which we look.
Dr Paul Rustemeyer has spent over 20 years studying the aesthetics of minerals and their scientific interpretation. With the help of microphotography, he has succeeded in capturing a marvellously beautiful world of crystal images. His fantastic photos are a feast for the eyes, even for mineralogical laymen.
