The Christmas tree lights are switched on
LED light sources are used for the first time
On Friday, 26 November, at around 12 noon, the lights on the Christmas tree on the market will be switched on. Around 800 light elements will then shine on the decorated spruce.
Over the past few days, the pyramid, candle arch and music box have been erected on the market square. Several large figures (angel, miner, Father Christmas and snowman) have also found their place on the market. In addition, numerous lighting elements such as spans as well as up and down elements have been installed on the street lamps.
What is new is that all lighting elements have been converted to LED light sources. Specifically, around 1,200 15-watt light bulbs and 1,300 7-watt light bulbs were replaced. They are now replaced by 0.6 watt LED light sources.
With a total burn time of around 45 days, this results in a total saving in electricity consumption of around 29,000 kWh. This means electricity cost savings of around 7,000 euros. In addition, the emission of around ten tonnes of CO2 can be avoided (at 352 grams per kWh). The one-off investment costs of around 9,000 euros for 3,000 LED light bulbs will therefore be amortised by the second use in the coming year.
