The Chemnitz Youth Art School introduces itself
Exhibition opening "Moments in Lusatia" on 25 January, 7 p.m. - Kick-off day on 27 January, 10.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. with practical insights
The Chemnitz Youth Art School will begin its work on Monday, 4 March. The cultural education programme is coordinated by the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre. Although registrations for participation and preparations for classes are in full swing, there will be two public events to familiarise yourself with the Chemnitz Youth Art School.
Exhibition opening to mark the founding of the youth art school
On Thursday, 25 January, from 7 to 9 p.m., the founding of the Chemnitz Youth Art School will be celebrated with an exhibition opening. Under the title "Moments in Lusatia", Chemnitz photographer and specialist lecturer Franziska Kurz1 will be showing portraits and snapshots from her home region of Brandenburg in the VHS gallery in the TIETZ - completely natural and undistorted. On display are impressive and true-to-life snapshots of people and quiet scenes. They are pictures that radiate a lively calmness to the viewer. The vernissage will be accompanied musically by the one-woman band Jens Ausderwäsche. During the exhibition opening, there will be an opportunity for lively dialogue and a small snack.
Participation is free of charge. Registration is not required.
Kick-off day for the founding of the youth art school
On Saturday, 27 January, from 10.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., things will get down to business with the kick-off. During the event, interested young people will have the opportunity to get a lively impression of the teaching and lecturers at the youth art school.
They are invited to seven different creative workshops in five rounds at the same time. There are workshops for drawing, printmaking, upcycling, photography, film, textile design and spoken word poetry.
These will be led by future teachers and subject profile leaders: Lavinia Chianello (drawing), Kathi Halama (fashion and surface design), Alina Herzau (upcycling), Franziska Kurz (photography), Jesse James LaFleur (creative writing), Thorsten Neundorf (film and media) and Silvio Zesch (screen printing).
The workshops start at the same time at 11am, 12pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm and last 45 minutes each. Participation is free of charge. Registration is also not necessary.
There will also be an opportunity for parents, adult chaperones and interested members of the public to ask questions and exchange ideas.

The Youth Art School is funded by the Saxon State Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism - co-financed by tax revenue on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon State Parliament.
1) Personal details: After training as a photo-media laboratory assistant and photographer, Franziska Kurz spent two years as a photographic assistant to the renowned Dresden art photographer Werner Lieberknecht. This was followed by a degree in media communication at the TU Chemnitz. Since graduating in 2013, she has been working as a freelance photographer, designer and project assistant in Chemnitz, giving courses and workshops. In collaboration with the adult education centre, she developed the concept for the photography subject profile at the Chemnitz Youth Art School. Franziska Kurz will lead the photography profile class at the school from March 2024.
