Today saw the annual meeting of the Chemnitz Region Hydrogen Alliance. Representatives from business, politics and academia gathered in the Chamber Hall of the Chemnitz Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) to discuss the latest developments and future prospects for hydrogen use in industry and commerce.
Jointly organised by the City of Chemnitz’s Economic Affairs Department, the Chemnitz Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK), the utility company eins/inetz and HZwo e. V., this specialist conference has established itself as a key platform for the region.
Alliance work since 2024
Now in its third year, the Hydrogen Alliance has successfully consolidated its collaborative work on a long-term basis. The fact that the Chemnitz region is set to be connected to the national hydrogen core network is also largely down to the continuous and coordinated efforts of the Alliance and its partners.
This year’s annual meeting offered the specialist audience and interested companies comprehensive insights into current political, legal and infrastructural developments. Alongside updates on federal and state policy – including the EU criteria for green hydrogen – the focus was on the specific planning status of the regional core network connection.
Practical insights into commercial applications
In addition to the infrastructural framework, participants gained insights into operational practice. Presentations by organisations including DBI gGmbH, FES GmbH and FPS.Energy GmbH highlighted specific reference projects from industry, as well as the challenges and opportunities involved in converting vehicle fleets to fuel cell powertrains.
In open discussion sessions, the company representatives in attendance took the opportunity to discuss pressing issues directly with the experts and to raise requirements for the ongoing transformation.

The Chemnitz Region Hydrogen Alliance is an association of regional stakeholders from business, academia and local authorities. The alliance’s aim is to drive forward the development of a regional hydrogen economy, to harness synergies between production, infrastructure and application, and to position Chemnitz as a future-proof and sustainable business location.
