On Tuesday, 28 January at 5 pm, interested parties are invited to a lecture at the Chemnitz Nature Conservation Station, Adelsbergstraße 192. The title is "The black redstart, bird of the year 2025 (NABU) - tips for building and installing nesting aids on buildings".
Participation is free of charge.
Speaker Jens Börner, Head of the Lower Nature Conservation Authority at the City of Chemnitz Environmental Agency, will provide information about the black redstart and other bird species that also nest on buildings. These bird species are often endangered and need help from humans. Illustrated examples of measures to help various bird species are presented and tips for the construction and installation of nesting aids are given.
Chemnitz nature conservation centre
The Chemnitz nature conservation centre is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Since the mid-1990s, many protection and aid measures for endangered bird species have been implemented there. More than 100 different nesting aids for birds have been installed on the building and in the grounds on Adelsbergstraße, as well as roosts for animal species that live in buildings. The black redstart also breeds almost every year in the grounds of the nature conservation centre and uses the nesting aids provided.
The black redstart is the German Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union's (NABU) Bird of the Year 2025.
