The authoritarian revolt - The New Right and the downfall of the West

Book launch and discussion with Dr phil. Volker Weiß on 12 April, 7 pm at TIETZ

On Wednesday, 12 April 2017, from 7 to 9.15 pm, the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre invites you to a book presentation and subsequent discussion with Dr phil. Volker Weiß in the event hall of the TIETZ, 3rd floor. Admission is free.

With his highly topical book, historian and journalist Volker Weiß presents the first in-depth and well-founded contemporary diagnosis of right-wing populist phenomena. He describes the diverse spectrum of the new right-wing movements and analyses the origins and networks of their cadres. With his knowledgeable look at German history, he shatters the central myths of the New Right and shows: At present, nationalist currents of the past that National Socialism had repressed are being revived.

Volker Weiß analyses authoritarian ideas and illustrates the transitions between conservatism, right-wing populism and right-wing extremism. The striking realisation: "Westerners" and Islamists are brothers in arms in their fight against self-determination. An enlightening book that ruthlessly exposes the paucity of the new movements and calls for a fight against their authoritarian impositions.

Weiß writes for various newspapers and magazines. He is the author of an internationally acclaimed study on the "Conservative Revolution" and has sharply criticised Thilo Sarrazin. He is considered one of the best experts on the new right-wing scene.

The event is a co-operation between the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation Saxony and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
