The artwork "ZUKUNFT" is dismantled

The city of Chemnitz is having the "ZUKUNFT" artwork dismantled in the coming week. It already had to be switched off a few months ago because a front pane was destroyed by vandalism.

The originally planned restoration of the artwork has since been postponed as the building recently changed hands. The building is to be renovated. The artwork will initially be stored until a new suitable location for the artwork is found.

The provocative, but also optimistic and thought-provoking artwork "ZUKUNFT" by Chemnitz artist Steffen Volmer shone until recently where the "HO" once advertised, on the corner building of the busy Leipziger Straße/Limbacher Straße junction.

It was created as part of the temporary Art in Urban Redevelopment project, which was initiated by the city of Chemnitz around eight years ago with the intention of creating places of perception, contemplation and reflection, but also provocation, in place of gaps in the urban fabric.
