The 4th Chemnitz Reading Night on 22 April at the TIETZ
A festival of poetry with readings, poetry slam, book market, puppet show, music, games, crafts and much more. Invitation to the press and photo session on 19 April 2017, 11.30 am at TIETZ
On the eve of the UNESCO World Book Day on 22 April 2017, the TIETZ invites you to the
4th Chemnitz Reading Night. Chemnitz authors, literary associations, writing workshops, publishers, bookshops and second-hand bookshops will be presenting themselves with a large book market centred around the Petrified Forest. There will also be a varied literary programme, puppet shows, a poetry slam, live music, games and hands-on activities for the whole family. Admission is free.
In the run-up to the 4th Chemnitz Reading Night, media representatives are invited to a pressand photo session on Wednesday, 19 April 2017 at 11.30 a.m. at the TIETZ, at the Petrified Forest. Members of the organising team will be happy to answer questions about the programme.
The reading festival begins at 3 pm with the opening performance "Luther & Marx". In the context of the Chemnitz cultural project of the same name for the Reformation Year, thoughts, words and works by the two personalities Martin Luther and Karl Marx will be presented at different locations and at different times for the reading night. The musical opening will set the mood. On the TIETZ forecourt, pupils from the music school will welcome visitors to the reading spectacle with street music.
The Hohenstein-Ernstthal author and musician Lothar Becker presents his episodic novel "Bubble Gum 69", a ludicrous parable about growing up in the GDR in the 60s and 70s. Members of the International Stefan Heym Society will recite from works by Stefan Heym.
The Chemnitz amateur theatre group "Lachfalten" will perform the oriental fairytale play "Abu Hassan, das Schlitzohr" and the Chemnitz puppet theatre will show the current production "Frerk du Zwerg" based on the children's book by Finn-Ole Heinrich.
Ayoub Thaer, a Syrian writer living in Chemnitz, will read texts about flight, asylum and home. This will be followed by a concert by the Syrian band YouMa.
The grand finale of the reading night is a poetry slam at 8.30 pm. A poetry slam workshop with experienced slammers had already taken place at the TIETZ in the run-up to the event. The best word acrobats and performers from the workshop will compete against each other in the TIETZ slam, supported by the well-known slam poet Gerrard Schüft.
