Thanks for taking part! Children receive games as a gift
Invitation to the photo session: 8 October, 9 a.m., "Farbenfroh" daycare centre, Katharinenstraße 1
Ralph Burghart, Mayor for Education, Social Affairs, Youth, Culture and Sport, will be handing over games to the children at the "Farbenfroh" daycare centre at Katharinenstraße 1 on Thursday, 8 October at 9 a.m. as a small thank-you for taking part in the hands-on campaign during the 2020 summer holidays. Media representatives are cordially invited to attend.
During the summer holidays, many children, together with friends, family or grandparents, took part in the city of Chemnitz's hands-on campaign and received a small gift as a thank you, such as beach balls, frisbees, children's tattoos or cloth bags. At the "Farbenfroh" daycare centre, entire groups have been busy painting, puzzling and discovering. As a thank you, the daycare centre also received a gift.
During the hands-on activity, children learnt about their home city of Chemnitz, the European Mobility Week, the cultural region and Chemnitz's bid to become European Capital of Culture 2025 in a fun way.
The response was overwhelming. More than 400 emails, letters and postcards were received in which the children described their favourite places and visions for Chemnitz, for example. Adrienne, for example, thinks the mill in Rottluff is beautiful. The famous painter Karl Schmidt-Rottluff lived there more than 100 years ago. Tom likes being in the forest in Adelsberg. Jonathan likes the bakery, the Lego shop and the sun in Schönau.
Lennox suggests a double-decker bus powered by two wind turbines as the means of transport of the future. Philipp, Jette, Celine and Finley have drawn vehicles with solar cells on the roof. Stella dreams of a unicorn on which Edgar and Edda, the mascots of European Mobility Week, can ride. With the help of four balloons, the unicorn can even fly. The horn looks like the colourful chimney in Chemnitz.
Pictures of the town hall were also submitted. Green towers, colourful domes, shining windows - that's how colourful Chemnitz is. Taneli has painted the number 2025 on the roof of the town hall so that Chemnitz can become the European Capital of Culture in that year.
