Background: Augusto Mendes, a citizen of Mozambique who has lived in Chemnitz since 1986, walked from the castle pond to Konkordiapark in the late evening hours of 29 August 2014, was approached there by two men and asked for cigarettes and a light and - after he had given them cigarettes and a light - was beaten and robbed by the men. Sebastian Braun was travelling home from work in his car at the time and noticed the robbery, immediately stopped his vehicle and rushed to the victim's aid. He was also beaten and injured in the process. Thanks to Sebastian Braun's courageous intervention, both perpetrators fled, but were later apprehended by the police.
