Textile question of faith? Or: What we always wanted to know about headscarves and veils
Controversial series - panel discussion and debate on 28 March, 6 pm
On Tuesday, 28 March at 6 pm, interested parties are invited to a panel discussion on the topic "Textile question of faith? Or: What we always wanted to know about headscarves and veils" at the adult education centre in the TIETZ, event hall, 3rd floor. Admission is free.
The famous "headscarf debate" has been flaring up again and again for years. The discussion is always very emotional and rarely factual. Religious fanaticism, unwillingness to integrate and the oppression of women are the terms most often associated with it. But what do we really know about it? Islam is just as difficult to generalise about as other religions; there are various currents and interpretations. And there are also various reasons for Muslim women to wear a headscarf or veil - or not. On this evening, Muslim women as well as experts from Islamic studies and law will have their say and explain their respective views on the subject. The current situation here in Chemnitz will also be analysed. This event is a co-operation between the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, the German Trade Union Federation and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
