Test meadow in the city park: dog meadow for dachshunds
As spring approaches, the Parks Department is once again starting to prepare the city's dog meadows for the four-legged friends. This year, for the first time, the department is realising a frequently expressed wish: One of the city's dog meadows will be specially prepared for dachshunds.
The dog meadow at the city park (near Parkstraße/Kauffahrtei) will be mowed every Wednesday and early Saturday morning for the weekend as part of a pilot project. "Especially in spring, the grass grows so quickly that dachshunds struggle to move quickly and appropriately on the meadow with their short legs after just a few days. That is why we are offering the dachshund-friendly short cut on a meadow on a trial basis - and will evaluate in autumn whether this has proved successful," says Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig.
When choosing the right location, the Parks Department was advised by dog trainers from Chemnitz. In the end, the meadow at the city park was chosen as it is easy to reach without having to climb stairs and is therefore barrier-free for dachshunds.
The dachshund meadow is not only the result of the dog owners' wishes, but also a suggestion from Horst Pinscher, Chairman of the Small Animal Advisory Board, who approached the building authorities with the idea in autumn. "I was happy to take up the suggestion, because I want to be there even more for all dachshunds - dachshunds of all generations," says the mayor.
