Terra Nova Campus - The discovery school: Support centre for the physically disabled officially opened
Largest construction project in decades - open day on 9 April
The largest school construction project in Chemnitz was handed over to its pupils and teachers today: The Terra Nova Campus was officially opened by Minister President Stanislaw Tillich, Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig, special school director Annett Goerlitz and the head of all-day care and residential care, Karla Lämmel.
Mayor Barbara Ludwig: "We have been waiting for this day for a very long time. This campus is the largest new building in the city's history for decades. We have made a conscious investment to create the best possible conditions for pupils with disabilities to embark on a journey of discovery through learning. The loving sympathy and the happy faces of the pupils today are proof of this: The long wait and the very high financial commitment were worth it."
Covering around 14,000 square metres, the Terra Nova Campus includes a school, therapy and medical area, residential and all-day care, sports hall and outdoor sports facilities. At 35.1 million euros, it is the largest school building project in the city of Chemnitz. Over 20 million euros were paid by the city of Chemnitz and 14.8 million euros were subsidised by the Free State of Saxony. This means that 251 children and young people, 107 of them from Chemnitz, can now learn in their new premises.
On 9 April, all interested parties will have the opportunity to explore the Terra Nova Campus for themselves at an open day.
