Tender for masterplan for Chemnitz Zoo launched
Interested parties can apply to the city with their documents until 21 April 2017
As of today, the master plan for the zoological, economic and structural development of the zoo has been put out to tender by the city. The closing date for external applicants is 21 April 2017, which is the next step in updating the development concept for Chemnitz Zoo. In December 2014, the City Council of Chemnitz confirmed a development concept for the zoo as a framework for action. With the involvement of external experts and the "Tierpark" working group, consisting of representatives of the city administration and the city council, the concept is being updated and a more far-reaching vision for the future is being developed. The aim is to ensure the long-term continued existence of the zoo as an affair of the heart for the people of Chemnitz. For this reason, considerable investment will be necessary in the coming years to adapt the zoo to current visitor requirements and to continue modern and attractive animal husbandry.
Ideas and a basic design concept have already been developed on the basis of these strategic considerations. This will serve as a framework for the development of an architectural masterplan, which will analyse individual measures in more detail and determine the basis for planning. From this, a cost estimate for the entire development measure is to be drawn up, the implementation is to be divided into individual sensible construction phases and timed, and a visualisation is to be produced.
Furthermore, it is planned to develop a business plan with all parts of the plan on the basis of the masterplan and to derive a financing concept from this. In addition, various forms of operation are to be conceptually analysed with regard to the advantages and disadvantages of the future further development and implementation of the strategic business concept for the zoo and recommendations for action are to be derived from this.

Opened in 1964, the zoo, which started out as a home animal park and has also included the Oberrabenstein wildlife park since 1995, offers interesting insights into the lives of around 1,000 animal individuals of almost 200 species over an area of around ten hectares throughout the year. Around 15 European animal species are kept in the 35-hectare game enclosure.
With around 150,000 visitors a year, Chemnitz Zoo is one of the city's most important cultural and leisure facilities and an important location factor for a family-friendly and touristically attractive city.
