Ten barbecue areas attract visitors to parks and meadows

Chemnitz residents can now enjoy barbecues in parks and meadows in a total of ten places. Yesterday, the city councillors approved a corresponding amendment to the green space statutes by a large majority. New areas will be designated in Hutholz at the bus loop, in the parks in Kappel (Carl-Hamel-Strasse) and Beckerstrasse, at Wasserschloß Klaffenbach, at Hartmannhalle and on the Stadtparkkippe.

At the end of May, the city council decided to allow charcoal barbecues at the pavilion on the castle pond island, on the Küchwald meadow, at the large city park pond and in the riverside park on the Chemnitz.

Observe safety instructions - remove rubbish

To ensure safety, make sure that barbecues are at least ten metres away from play equipment, treetops, benches and works of art. For fire safety reasons and to protect the meadows, the distance from the ground to the charcoal must be at least 30 centimetres. This rules out the use of fire bowls and disposable barbecues.

It goes without saying that waste should be disposed of in municipal parks and meadows. Therefore, barbecue guests should not forget their rubbish bag - to leave the area as they found it or would like to find it themselves.
