Taxi fares to rise from February 2019
At its meeting today, the City Council decided to increase the transport charges for taxis in the Chemnitz compulsory travel area with effect from 15 February 2019.
The transport charges will increase by €0.10 per kilometre travelled. The waiting time per hour will also increase by 1.00 euro. The basic fare of 3.90 euros and the surcharge for large-capacity taxis of 5.00 euros will remain as before.
The new fare is set as follows:
Fare level I, weekdays 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., basic fare 3.90 euros, kilometre fare up to 3 km at
2.10 Euro/km, over 3 km at 1.80 Euro/km.
Tariff level II, weekdays 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and all day on Sundays and public holidays, basic tariff 3.90 euros, kilometre price up to 3 km at 2.30 euros/km, over 3 km at 1.80 euros/km.
Waiting time is charged at 25 euros per hour for both fare levels.
The calculation is made by the fare meter. Any waiting of the taxi during the utilisation at the request of the customer or user is considered waiting time.
Surcharges for fare levels I and II are charged at 5 euros for large-capacity taxis with 5 or more passengers or by express order by the passenger. The incremental amount is 0.10 euros.
The amendment to the taxi fare ordinance in the Chemnitz compulsory travel area is being made at the request of the Chemnitz eG taxi cooperative (on behalf of all members), as the statutory minimum wage will be increased again from 1 January 2019.
The last time the Chemnitz taxi fare was increased was on 1 January 2015. At that time, the minimum wage of €8.50 per hour was introduced. The increase in the statutory minimum wage in 2017 to 8.84 euros was borne by the Chemnitz taxi industry without any changes to the rate.
From January 2019, the minimum wage is to be increased to 9.19 euros and from 1 January 2020 to 9.35 euros per hour.
This will result in an increase in wage costs for the industry of 8.12 per cent from January 2019 and 10 per cent from January 2020 compared to 2015.
The agreed increase in charges will result in a fare increase for passengers of just 3.7 per cent for a distance of around 10 km.
