TAMPERE.COOL: Finnish evening at TIETZ

Invitation for Tuesday, 14 October, 19:30, City Library

Finland is this year's Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair. The slogan of the guest country appearance is Finland.cool - the Chemnitz twin city Tampere is also cool when it comes to literature, for example: Tampere is a lively literary city with a long tradition in the national cultural scene. So what could be more natural than for the guests from Tampere to pay a visit to their two German twin cities, Chemnitz and Essen. The city of Chemnitz is hosting and supporting the visit as part of its town twinning programme.

The young comic artist Emmi Nieminen, the playwright Merja Repo and the author Dieter Hermann Schmitz will be welcomed to Chemnitz on Tuesday, 14 October at 19:30 in the TIETZ building of the city library. Anyone interested in literature and those who would like to become one are cordially invited to attend the event, which takes place in the Culture & Countries section of the City Library. Admission is free.

Comic artist Emmi Nieminen from Tampere presents her latest graphic novel "Keskiviikko". Since her debut in 2010, she has published three graphic novels and is currently a guest lecturer at Orivesi University of the Arts. Theatre author Merja Repo will read from her play "The Broken Bowl". In his book "Die spinnen, die Finnen", German editor and car driver Dieter Hermann Schmitz talks about his life in the far north. Schmitz has lived for many years with his Finnish wife and children near Tampere in southern Finland. He teaches translation studies at the university there.
