Take care when handling fireworks

Information from the Chemnitz fire brigade at the turn of the year 2014/2015

On New Year's Eve, the sky above Chemnitz will also be imaginatively lit up by a wide variety of fireworks - but please be (also) careful. That's why the Chemnitz fire brigade would like to take this opportunity to provide some traditional tips and advice to ensure that the turn of the year 2014/2015 goes off without any injuries or fires:

  • When using fireworks or other pyrotechnic products, it is essential to follow the instructions for use.
  • Fireworks must not be aimed at people or animals.
  • Under no circumstances may fireworks intended for outdoor use be set off indoors.
  • When setting off firework rockets, the direction of flight must always be chosen so that the rockets cannot fly against buildings and/or into building openings.
  • Special attention should also be paid to "duds" in order to avoid injuries.
  • Glowing remains of fireworks should be extinguished and disposed of safely.
  • Table fireworks should always be set off on a fireproof surface and, of course, not under paper garlands.
  • Very important: Under no circumstances should you "make" your own fireworks!
  • Caution is advised with products that are not purchased in local shops - fireworks purchased elsewhere may not comply with local regulations. Therefore, please note: Only fireworks that are BAM-approved may be purchased and used.
  • In addition, no flammable objects should be left on balconies and terraces on New Year's Eve in order to prevent fires caused by flying fireworks.

The City of Chemnitz fire brigade wishes all citizens an accident-free New Year and a healthy and fire-free New Year!
