On Friday 11 September, from 1 pm to 4 pm, anyone interested is invited to a day of action at Düsseldorfer Platz to mark the national Day for the Homeless. The aim is to raise awareness of the situation facing homeless people in Chemnitz.
The City of Chemnitz’s Social Services Department, independent welfare organisations and other stakeholders in the field of emergency housing support are, under this year’s theme ‘Take notice. Take action. – Together against the housing crisis’, are drawing attention to the causes of homelessness and how those affected cope with this phase of their lives. The aim is to raise awareness of life situations that often remain hidden in our society.
In keeping with the theme, a photography exhibition will be presented this year, depicting homeless people in their everyday surroundings and offering a very personal insight into their diverse lived experiences.
In makeshift living rooms, the various stakeholders involved in emergency housing support will be on hand to engage with visitors and answer questions on the topic, whilst highlighting approaches to potential solutions. Those interested can talk to staff from the participating organisations and find out about the advice and support services on offer.
In addition, various hands-on activities are planned, and the Solidarity Kitchen for All (‘SoKü’) will be serving food.
