On Friday 30 October, from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm, educational professionals, teachers and headteachers from all types of school are invited to the symposium ‘Shaping Schools – Towards a New School Culture’ at the Carlowitz Congress Centre, Theaterstraße 3. The symposium will address, amongst other things, how schools can be shaped with a view to the future, which innovative approaches schools can adopt, and how a new school culture can be developed in collaboration with pupils, teachers and headteachers. The event is organised by the City of Chemnitz’s Children and Young People’s Commissioner, Dina Norberger, the Saxon Carlowitz Society and its network partners.
Media representatives are also invited.
The symposium aims not only to impart knowledge but also to promote exchange, networking and the courage to bring about change in schools. The aim is to explore modern school development and take away new ideas for one’s own school. Following the opening by the organisers, Mayor Ralph Burghart will welcome the participants. The State Office for Schools and Education will also be represented.
Among those providing inspiration will be Margret Rasfeld, founder of the ‘Schule im Aufbruch’ initiative, who will give a talk exploring new ways of learning and the question of how schools can shape change. The ‘Speaking and Listening’ session that follows will offer an opportunity to reflect on these ideas together and engage in discussion with one another.
At the ‘Market of Opportunities’, participants can network with stakeholders from the field of education for sustainable development at around 20 stands, learn about projects and exchange ideas for their own work.
In the afternoon, various workshops are planned to explore individual topics relating to modern school development in greater depth. The programme includes, amongst other things, self-organised learning, the role of school leaders, alternative forms of assessment and innovative learning formats.
This will be followed, from 5 pm, by the Saxony Sustainability Conference, which will include the presentation of the Carlowitz Prize. Further information: www.carlowitz-gesellschaft.de/nachhaltigkeitspreis/nachhaltigkeitspreis-2026
