On Monday, 17 March at 2 pm, Mayor Sven Schulze will hand over the symbolic cheques, which will be presented by Saxony's State Secretary for Economic Affairs Thomas Kralinski, to the two award-winning Chemnitz projects in the Saxon city competition "Ab in die Mitte!".
The award-winning projects are "Chemnitz wins! Roter Turm Lotto" (40,000 euros), represented by Kay Kaden, Rotarian and Christian Köhler, AG Roter Turm zu Chemnitz e. V. and "Auf'n Halt - Leuchten & Genießen" (20,000 euros), represented by Sven Hertwig, location coordinator of Rathaus Passagen & Rosenhof.

The Red Tower and the Innere Klosterstraße gastro mile are important places in Chemnitz, and I am proud that we can make our city even more attractive through these initiatives."
Kathleen Spranger, Managing Director of the Chemnitz Regional Chamber of the Chemnitz Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Simone Epperlein, District Director of Sachsenlotto Chemnitz, and René Glaser, Managing Director of the Saxony Trade Association, will also be available for discussions.
Background
The city centre competition "Ab in die Mitte! Die City-Offensive Sachsen" was launched in 2024 by the Saxon State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport (SMWA) and the Saxon State Ministry for Regional Development (SMR) with total prize money of 300,000 euros. 42 Saxon municipalities with 46 projects took part.The motto "Auf'n Halt - Stadtmitte hat immer Saison" ("On your feet - the city centre is always in season") focused on mobility and accessibility as well as quality of stay and recreation. Chemnitz successfully took part with two projects and won prize money totalling 60,000 euros.
The competition, which was launched in 2004, is a public-private partnership, an initiative supported by the private sector together with the Free State of Saxony.
Over the past 20 years, "Ab in die Mitte!" has become a recognised instrument of sustainable urban development. More than 150 Saxon municipalities with more than 450 projects have participated in the programme to date.
