Sven Schulze elected as official administrator
Official title "Lord Mayor" - All powers and duties can be exercised
The Chemnitz City Council today elected Sven Schulze as mayor with 34 votes in favour, 13 against and two abstentions from a total of 49 councillors present. He emerged as the elected candidate from the mayoral elections on 20 September and 11 October.
Sven Schulze can therefore fulfil all the duties and powers of the Lord Mayor without delay and use the official title "Lord Mayor". He also has the right to vote in the City Council and its committees.

According to the Saxon Local Elections Act, the elected Lord Mayor can take office if the Saxony State Directorate (LDS), as the legal supervisory authority, has declared the election valid. It did so by decision on 16 November after it found no relevant violations during the audit.
However, the mayor can only take office once the proceedings relating to the three election challenges rejected by the state directorate have been finalised. Objectors still have one month to lodge an appeal against this decision by the legal supervisory authority. It is currently not foreseeable whether the objectors will initiate proceedings against the decision of the LDS.
In the event of an election being contested, the Saxon municipal code provides for the possibility of appointing an official administrator. This means that a candidate elected as Lord Mayor of the city can be appointed by the City Council with a majority of the votes of all members as official administrator even before the legally binding decision on the election challenges has been made, after the election review authority has established the validity of the election.
