Sustainable travelling - how, where and with whom?

On Wednesday, 1 June, from 7 to 8.30 pm, the adult education centre invites you to a lecture by sustainability expert Dr André Matthes on the possibilities of environmentally friendly travel.

Now that the pandemic is over, many people are looking forward to travelling and carefree holidays. However, the past few years have shown how urgently we need to consider the impact of many of our usual actions on the climate and environment. Tourism has come under particular scrutiny. Are individual holidays and climate protection still compatible?
Current research shows that conventional tourism is responsible for around five per cent of global emissions and for massive environmental damage in holiday destinations. How can the joy of travelling and the protection of our natural resources be reconciled?
Dr André Matthes, Head of Sustainable Textiles and Digital Education at Chemnitz University of Technology, knows how. He has a wealth of experience himself and has been travelling by bike with his family for more than 16 years. He also provides advice on outdoor equipment.
Interested parties can talk to the speaker at the event. They will also discuss the question of whether there are just as many adventures to be had in the local countryside as on long-distance journeys. Together, visions for a more conscious use of resources and our CO2 consumption can be developed.
The event is a cooperation between the Saxon State Centre for Political Education and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre as part of the "Kontrovers vor Ort" series.
