Survey for rent index begins next week
A new qualified rent index is currently being compiled for the city of Chemnitz. Since its first edition in 1997, the index has proven to be a reliable means of making the rent structure in the city transparent, protecting tenants from excessive demands and also providing landlords with a solid basis for increases. Surveys for the new survey, which is being developed together with tenants' and landlords' representatives, will begin next week. They are one of the main pillars on which the determination of the local comparative rent is based.
The City of Chemnitz has commissioned Chempirica Markt- und Meinungsforschung Michael Urban und Ulrich Weiser GbR, Brückenstraße 13, 09111 Chemnitz, to carry out the survey. The survey is based on a representative sample from the population register, which will be announced by post in the next few days. Participation is voluntary, but it is important that as many tenants as possible are willing to provide information about their flat and rent in order to obtain as realistic a picture as possible of the actual situation. The information collected includes the start of the tenancy, flat size, net rent and advance payment of operating costs.

For the first time, the new survey will be combined with the collection of data required for the updating of the Accommodation and Heating Costs Directive (KdU Directive) to determine the appropriateness of rents and ancillary costs for recipients of social benefits under Social Security Codes II and XII. The data obtained can be used to adapt the current guideline to developments on the Chemnitz housing market.
