Support campaign for daycare centres with special needs

At its meeting today, Chemnitz City Council approved the "Support campaign for daycare centres with special needs". For this purpose, a social worker will be established in eight daycare centres run by independent organisations and ten centres run by local authorities, based on selected criteria.

The aim of the support campaign is to support children whose life situation is associated with risks and consequences of social disadvantage, poverty or other risky life situations by providing special services in day care centres. They are to be supported in overcoming individual learning, performance and developmental impairments. The work of the daycare centre social workers on site is intended to strengthen the children's participation and educational opportunities and thus improve their chances of starting out in life.

In addition to supporting the children and their parents, the daycare centre social workers cooperate with other specialists and social services in the district, in particular the general social services, e.g. when assistance plans are to be drawn up in accordance with Section 36 SGB VIII or measures are required in accordance with Section 8a of the Protection of Children's Welfare Act. The aim here is to find suitable and necessary help for the guardians or the child in collegial case consultations involving the daycare centre team.

However, the social workers at the daycare centre should not only work in the daycare centre itself, but also in the district. The aim is to work together with the actors involved and other youth and social welfare organisations in the community to jointly identify, process and resolve problems, areas of conflict and the need for dialogue. In this way, the daycare centre social workers can also provide important impulses for the youth and social planning of the city of Chemnitz.
