Super trees wanted - tree species selection in climate change

Event of the Environmental Centre on 3 December, 6 pm

The Environmental Centre and the Tree Protection Working Group of Local Agenda 21 invite you to a lecture followed by a discussion on the topic of tree species selection in climate change on Tuesday, 3 December 2019 at 6 pm at the Environmental Centre, Henriettenstraße 5.

The speaker will be Dr Sten Gillner, tree specialist at the city's Parks Department. Admission is free

Background:

Climate change has a strong impact on ecosystems. In the case of trees and forests, the effects of extreme weather events such as storms, snow breakage, the increase in temperature and the reduction in precipitation are clearly visible even to the layman. This affects both old and young trees. A total of around 2500 trees are affected in Chemnitz. There are also clear differences between the tree species, depending on the natural distribution centre and site conditions, the trees lose or gain as a result of the changed climate conditions.
