Summer, sun, swimming fun: the city's outdoor pools open flexibly and visitor-orientated - from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the main outdoor pool season

Renovation of the children's paddling pool at the Gablenz outdoor pool completed ahead of schedule - expected to open on Thursday (11 July)

Summer, sun, swimming fun in the big city - if you have time and maybe even a holiday, you might like to cool off in one of the city's outdoor pools, which open their doors flexibly and in a customer-oriented manner and invite you to enjoy a dip. On particularly hot days, the visitor-friendly principle of the swimming pool department of the sports authority has already been practised in recent weeks with success, i.e. excellent visitor response. In the 2012 season, the municipal outdoor pools also opened about an hour earlier on days with very good weather prospects and closed their gates later than planned in the evening, depending on the number of visitors. In the current outdoor pool pre-season, the outdoor pools generally open at around 10 am on particularly hot summer days and close at around 7 pm.

Yesterday and today, for example, the municipal outdoor pools opened their gates between 10 am and 10.15 am, while previously registered school classes were able to enjoy the cool waters of the 100-metre pool at Bernsdorf outdoor pool from 9 am today.

In the main outdoor pool season - starting on 15 July with the start of the summer school holidays in Saxony - the municipally operated outdoor pools in Chemnitz open from 10 am to 8 pm. Here, too, you can be flexible depending on the weather.

Children's paddling pool at the Gablenz outdoor pool: The children's paddling pool at the Gablenz outdoor pool, which unfortunately could not be available for the opening of the season as planned due to necessary renovations, will be completed ahead of schedule this week. Following completion of the extensive construction work, the test filling and subsequent cleaning work will take place today. Tomorrow, the city's health department will test the water. The paddling pool is then expected to be available from Thursday (11 July), meaning that nothing can stand in the way of the youngest visitors to the Gablenz outdoor pool having fun in the paddling pool.

The refurbishment of the paddling pool focussed on the necessary reprofiling of the pool floor and the subsequent "lining" of the pool with glass fibre-reinforced plastic, which was carried out directly on site, as well as the installation of two sun protection systems in the toddlers' area, thus providing appropriate sun protection for the youngest bathers and their adult carers. By installing the sun protection systems, the Sports Office has also taken on board and realised corresponding suggestions and requests from bathers - particularly with regard to the paddling pool area. A total of four stationary sunshades were installed in the Gablenz outdoor pool and now provide shade for visitors.
