Summary of assembly events on 1 May 2018
Several demonstrations and assemblies of various political orientations were registered for 1 May 2018 in Chemnitz. Several thousand people took part in the registered demonstrations organised by organisations including the DGB Chemnitz City Association, the Chemnitz University of Technology Student Council, the Netzwerk für Kultur- und Jugendarbeit e.V., the "Hand in Hand" cultural alliance and the Chemnitz Nazifrei alliance. The demonstration and rally organised by the III. Weg party recorded 650 participants.
The citizens' hotline set up by the city council recorded a total of 90 calls. These concerned, among other things, towed vehicles, blocked roads, the accessibility of car parks in the city centre and accessibility for care services.
The fire and rescue services did not have to respond to any incidents directly related to the demonstration.
In the run-up to today's event, extensive stopping restrictions were put in place in the city centre and Sonnenberg area. In total, the public order office distributed more than 4,000 information leaflets to vehicle owners in advance. Nevertheless, 19 vehicles in the Sonnenberg area had to be towed away on the morning of 1 May.
