Successful start to the "Daycare centre & artists" project
Eight artistic education projects from the call launched in April 2017 between Chemnitz artists and daycare centres can begin.
The Kulturraum Stadt Chemnitz invited regional artists and daycare centres to collaborate creatively for the second time - for the first time in 2016. The eight of the 13 project ideas submitted have now been selected by a jury consisting of Gabriele Aurich, representing the Office for Youth and Family, Valentine Jerke, representing the City of Chemnitz Cultural Management, and Christin Busch, representing the Chemnitz Artists' Association.
The aim is to give children access to artistic education and co-creation. The eight selected projects will be supported with prizes of up to 1000 euros. The artists from the fields of performing and visual arts will now be working with children aged three to six until the end of the year to organise workshops, courses or project days.

In the Pampelmuse kindergarten, collected nursery rhymes, songs and verses are illustrated by the children's thoughts together with the artist Veronica Seidel. Through the sensual use of clay and water, the children learn new painting and design techniques, which they translate into an individual visual language on a plexiglass disc through their own (physical) experimentation. By making imprints of the resulting traces, monotypes are created which the children subsequently associate with a rhyme of their own choice and at the end of the project a joint exhibition is created.
At the Apfelbäumchen kindergarten, children work together with artist Kerstin Lesselt to design a wall on Schloßteichstraße by using stencils developed by the children to create figures.
Under the guidance of artist Heda Bayer, the children at the Martinstraße daycare centre develop their own theatre piece that expresses emotions and feelings through body language.
At the Glückskäfer daycare centre, autumnal materials are explored with all the senses with the artist Frieda Friedemann and a sound installation is created together with the children, which is implemented in a performative theatre piece for the daycare centre's autumn festival in November.
In the colour play project, the children at Kita Sonneninsel will work with the artist Mathilde Schliebe to get to know their associations and feelings in the tangible use of colours and together design a mural for the cosy corner, in which each child can contribute their own wishes.
The special prize from Sparkasse Chemnitz goes to the ecological daycare centre Groß & Klein. The artist Steffi Wähner is working with the children to develop their own children's book, in which the story is designed and developed using the children's ideas.
