Stumbling stone tour in the Reitbahn neighbourhood
Event organised by the adult education centre on 27 June, 11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
The Chemnitz Adult Education Centre invites interested parties to take a walk along selected stumbling blocks in the Reitbahn district on Sunday, 27 June from 11 am to 12.30 pm. Participation is free of charge. Registration is possible at www.vhs-chemnitz.de or 0371 488 4343. The focus of the tour with historian Dr Jürgen Nitsche is on Chemnitz Jews who lived on Annenstraße, Brauhausstraße and Wiesenstraße, among others. The tour begins at the TIETZ, the former department stores' H. & C. Tietz, at the entrance to Reitbahnstraße.
The acts of violence committed by the National Socialist regime against Jews also left terrible traces in Chemnitz. More than 250 Stolpersteine have now been laid in the city in memory of Jewish citizens who once lived in Chemnitz and other victims of Nazi tyranny.
Stolpersteine are small 10 x 10 cm brass plaques that provide information about the names and key dates in the lives of these people and mark their last places of residence or work. They were embedded in the pavement.
