Stumbling block for Irene Beatrice Goeritz stolen
Criminal charges have been filed
The stumbling block for Irene Beatrice Goeritz, which had been located at Hoffmannstraße 52 in Chemnitz since 2012 and commemorates the fate of the daughter of an industrialist family from Chemnitz, was broken out of the pavement by unknown persons.
The city of Chemnitz has filed a criminal complaint. The building yard will repair the footpath area. Until a new stumbling block is made, a concrete slab will draw attention to the absence of the stumbling block. This will be placed in the footpath in the next few days.
Irene Beatrice Goeritz died at the age of one together with her family during the crossing to England, when the family tried to flee the National Socialist dictatorship by ship. The ship collided with a sea mine in November 1939 and sank as a result.
