Students from Indonesia visit Chemnitz town hall
On Wednesday, 18 September at 1 p.m., the young guests from afar will be welcomed by doorman Stefan Weber at the main entrance to Chemnitz Town Hall and invited to a guided tour of the town hall and the High Tower: The 16 Indonesian girls and boys aged between 13 and 15 from Padang on Sumatra are expected to arrive accompanied by their headmistress and a geography teacher. The pupils and teachers are visiting Chemnitz from 15 to 28 September 2013 at the invitation of the Dr.-Wilhelm-André-Gymnasium. They will be accompanied to the town hall by their hosts from the André-Gymnasium.
Representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend the photo opportunity at the main entrance to the town hall as well as the guided tour.
Pupils and teachers are expected by their hosts on Sunday (15 September) at Berlin-Tegel Airport. The programme for their two-week stay in Chemnitz includes meetings with their peers at André-Gymnasium, including a presentation of the international Yari School Padang and participation in lessons at André-Gymnasium. In addition, guests and hosts (supervising pupils and teachers) will go on an excursion to Dresden and visit the Saxon State Parliament as well as Augustusburg Castle in the neighbourhood with a demonstration in the falconry there. In Chemnitz, the programme includes a visit to the town hall, the ice rink at Küchwald and the school biology centre as well as a guided tour of the city.
During the two-week stay in Chemnitz, guests and hosts will communicate in English, and the headmistress is also a German teacher, speaks perfect German and will also translate simultaneously. The guests will be staying with host families in Chemnitz. The visit by Indonesian students and teachers is the first student exchange between the international Yari School Padang on Sumatra and the Dr Wilhelm André Gymnasium in Chemnitz. The return visit from Chemnitz is scheduled for autumn 2014. The student exchange is sponsored by the Pedagogical Exchange Service in Bonn. Last autumn, two pupils and a teacher paid a preparatory visit to Chemnitz.
