From April to mid-May 2025, around 450 street trees will be planted, mainly on roads in the south-east of Chemnitz (see list at the end for locations). For the most part, trees will be replanted in existing but empty tree locations - with the aim of filling in the gaps that have arisen during traffic safety measures. Furthermore, the street space will be developed in such a way that high temperatures and strong sunlight in the summer months will be better mitigated by the trees - thus improving the quality of life.
The planting was planned and prepared by the City of Chemnitz's green spaces department back in 2024 and will be carried out by contracted gardening and landscaping companies. They will also provide the necessary maintenance services, including watering, for the next three growing seasons.
In the course of the planting work, there may be short-term restrictions on road traffic.
The total costs for these street tree plantings amount to approx. 550,000 euros.
