Street tree planting in the city of Chemnitz in autumn 2020

Tree planting is currently starting on various streets in the city of Chemnitz. The trees will be planted by contracted gardening and landscaping companies from October 2020 to mid-March 2021. The maintenance services will be provided by the companies over three growing seasons.

The total costs for these street tree plantings amount to approx. 268,000 euros.

The measures include a total of 149 deciduous trees:

Plantings subsidised by urban development funds from the federal government, the Free State of Saxony and the City of Chemnitz:

  • Bernhardstraße21 urban elms (Ulmus hollandica "Commelin")
  • Charlottenstraße 9 Tree hazel (Corylus colurna)
  • Fichtestraße 6 Gleditsia (Gleditsia triacanthos "Skyline")
  • Vettersstrasse23 Crimean lime trees (Tilia x euchlora)

New plantings following road construction measures in Borna-Heinersdorf on:

  • Heinersdorfer Straße 16 Ash trees (Fraxinus excelsior "Geessink")
  • Wittgensdorfer Straße 50 ash trees (Fraxinus excelsior "Westhofs Glorie")


Replanting at individual locations on:

  • Agricolastraße 1 Norway maple (Acer platanoides)
  • Bornaer Straße4 ash trees (Fraxinus excelsior "Westhofs Glorie")
  • Christian-Wehner-Straße 4 plane trees (Platanus acerifolia)
  • Goethestrasse5 Elms (Ulmus "New Horizen")
  • Horst-Menzel-Straße 6 Imperial lime tree (Tilia x vulgaris "Pallida")
  • Kochstrasse3 Norway maple (Acer platanoides)
  • Zeißstrasse1 imperial lime (Tilia x vulgaris "Pallida")
