Street tree planting and embankment greening begins on Stollberger Straße in Chemnitz
The section of Stollberger Straße between Scheffelstraße and Usti nad Labem Straße and the embankment areas towards Carl-Bobach-Straße and Wenzel-Verner-Straße are to be replanted for the planting season in spring 2016. After all the poplars in the aforementioned embankment area were felled in October 2015 due to the existing risk of breakage, the public green space is now to be upgraded by planting street trees and restoring the embankment areas. In this area, a row of 79 lime trees is to be planted on the right-hand side of Stollberger Straße towards the city centre.
The tree stumps remaining on the embankment areas after felling will be cleared and the resulting unevenness levelled out by applying soil and sowing grass. The aim is to create an even, harmonious slope that also allows for a minimum of green maintenance. The maintenance work on the trees and green areas will be carried out by the contractor until autumn 2017.
The contract is worth around 138,000 euros. The work will be carried out by the company Fachcenter Garten+STL-Bau GmbH from Hauptmannsgrün.
Extensive traffic regulations and restrictions will be necessary during the construction work, in particular the street tree planting on Stollberger Straße. Stollberger Straße will only be passable in one lane in the direction of the town for approximately two weeks. Traffic travelling in the opposite direction will be diverted via Usti nad Labem. Parking restrictions will also be necessary in the embankment area on the neighbouring roads. We ask for your understanding.
In preparation for the commissioned planting, it was necessary to fell individual smaller trees whose condition (damage to the trunk, missing leading shoot, dead parts of the crown) only became apparent after clearance in October.
The main greening work will then be concentrated on the embankments from 21 March, weather permitting, and carried out with a high level of personnel and technical capacity in order to keep the construction period short and thus reduce the restrictions to a minimum.
