Street on Sonnenberg receives the name "Riemannweg"
At its meeting yesterday, the city council decided that the private road in the residential area on the corner of Fürstenstrasse and Hoferstrasse will be named "Riemannweg" after the founder of the former Riemann-Werke, August Hermann, and his wife Emma Therese. On the site of the former Riemann-Fahrzeugelektrik, an ambitious building project with around eleven owner-occupied homes is being developed. There are also plans to renovate the listed factory and preserve the villa at Fürstenstrasse 83.
The name Riemannweg goes back to the former vehicle lamp factory of the Riemann family. Their "automobile lanterns" achieved world fame at the beginning of the 20th century and became market leaders in the field of vehicle lighting. The products also won numerous awards at international exhibitions.
The street name commemorates the traditional Chemnitz company.
