In September, two current exhibitions will be shown at the TIETZ in parallel to the programme of courses and events at the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
Discover Stephan Heym. Graphic novels about Stefan Heym
On Thursday, 4 September at 7 pm, the exhibition "Discovering Stephan Heym. Graphic Novels on Stefan Heym" will open in the TIETZ event hall. It includes student works on the works of Stefan Heym.
Pupils have illustrated works by Heym, which will be presented in the exhibition together with original graphic novels. The vernissage invites visitors to take a tour of the exhibition and engage in conversation. It will be accompanied by Ulrike Uhlig from the Stefan Heym Society, the initiators Gerald Richter and Marian Kretschmer.
Gerald Richter and Marian Kretschmer received the 2021 and 2024 Stefan Heym Award for the conception of their youth art project and involved twelve educational institutions from Chemnitz and Central Saxony, in which they worked with the graphic novel "The Seven Lives of Stefan Heym" and the film "Heymkehr".

Lovely Zwickau - a colourful city in black and white photographs
On Thursday, 18 September, from 6 p.m., interested parties are invited to the vernissage of the exhibition "Liebenswertes Zwickau - eine bunte Stadt in Schwarz-Weiß-Fotografien" by Katharina John. The opening will take place in the VHS gallery on the 4th floor of the TIETZ.
Katharina John's photos are snapshots of Zwickau, views through the keyhole without artificial light in analogue black and white. She tells stories with her pictures, not only depicting the outside, but also making the inside of the city visible.
The exhibition not only shows photographs of well-known Zwickau buildings and places from the outside and inside, the artist is particularly interested in the details. The exhibition is part of the European Capital of Culture year in the cultural region. The laudatory speech will be held on this day by cultural journalist Matthias Zwarg.
Katharina John has worked as a stage designer at various theatres. Inspired by her many travels, she began to take photographs and worked as a theatre and portrait photographer. Today the artist lives in Berlin.
