Status report on the complete remodelling of the stadium on Gellertstraße: award procedure is running according to plan
The current status:
The land reorganisation has been completed. The city is therefore the owner of the land around the stadium (= so-called stadium perimeter). The contract for the cancellation of the overall building rights has been notarised. A utilisation agreement has been concluded between the city and Chemnitzer FC for the period until the stadium is completed in order to regulate its use during the conversion phase.
The two-stage negotiation process to select the general contractor is proceeding according to plan. The bidders' binding offers have been scrutinised by the city's specialist departments and external parties. The advisory jury has also accompanied the process. According to the previous schedule, the contract should therefore be awarded in June.
The three-person staff unit in charge of the remodelling within the administration has been fully staffed since April.
Around 1.14 million euros have been spent on the project so far. This sum includes GGG's preliminary work, consultancy costs and compensation for the go-kart hall.
Keyword stadium
The city took over the role of developer last autumn after the state directorate did not approve the planned construction with the housing company GGG as the developer. As a result, the contractual structures had to be adjusted by a city council resolution in November 2012 and the tender to select a general contractor had to be repeated. In addition, a supplementary budget had to be approved in order to include the loan of EUR 25 million required for the remodelling in the 2013 and 2014 budgets.
The remodelling of the stadium on Gellertstraße is to be carried out while the stadium remains open. A modern arena with 15,000 seats is planned, including around 9,000 seats and 6,000 standing places as well as a family block.
