Statement on the allegations regarding the Coffee Art Bar

The city of Chemnitz firmly rejects the accusations made by the operator of the Coffee Art Bar. The city council is not to blame for the fact that he wants to close his shop.

The city of Chemnitz has a great interest in revitalising the Brühl.

The operator opened his café last year without a valid licence. In his application, he had only applied for a café with 40 seats, without special use or music. He then opened with 70 seats. In addition, he did not have a business licence for the restaurant.

He only applied for the licence for live music and concerts after he had already opened. The office had authorised him unlimited use as a café and ten dates for live music until 10 pm.

Even before another agreed on-site meeting with the authorities at the end of January, Mr Beyer had announced that he wanted to close his café. There could have been a compromise with the authorities. For these reasons, the City of Chemnitz cannot understand why Mr Beyer is making such accusations in public.
