Statement by Mayor Ralph Burghart on the preservation of the Chemnitz location of Galeria Kaufhof
Mayor Ralph Burghart comments on the preservation of the Galeria Kaufhof location in Chemnitz:
"I am delighted! The preservation of Galeria Kaufhof announced today can be seen as a success of the efforts made for the Chemnitz location. I would like to thank all those involved.
Further developments are now subject to negotiations between the Galeria Group and the new owner of the property, the Krieger Group.
Furthermore, a final and serious assessment of the future direction of the shop will only be possible after the planned creditors' meeting on 27 March in Essen.
A multifunctional approach that goes beyond the pure shopping experience and appeals to a variety of different target groups will certainly be necessary for a successful future.
The new owner, who recently acquired the building, is in talks with the Galeria itself as well as other partners and the city about how the building could be used in the future. Especially with a view to 2025 and the future, this is an important task in which we as the city are happy to provide advice."
