Statement by Mayor Barbara Ludwig on the Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof in Chemnitz
"I am delighted from the bottom of my heart for the city and the employees that Galeria Kaufhof has a future in Chemnitz. This decision is a further incentive for us as a city to make our contribution to a vibrant city centre that attracts many Chemnitz residents and guests.
'It's worth fighting for' is a motto of our Capital of Culture bid. And it's true! I would like to thank the employees and everyone who took part in the support campaigns - including the signature campaign and the human chain.
I would particularly like to thank our Minister President Michael Kretschmer for his personal commitment. And many thanks to the Chairman of the Group Management Board, Mr Müllenbach, for giving the Chemnitz site a chance again."
