State Secretary Dr Wilhelm hands over funding decision for the Brühl to Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig
In addition, more than two million euros in the SOP programme - focus on implementing energy efficiency measures
Today, Tuesday - almost exactly one year after the opening of the Brühl office and the start of funding for the SOP - Active City and District Centres Brühl-Boulevard programme, State SecretaryMichael Wilhelm (Saxon State Ministry of the Interior) handed over a funding decision to increase the funds by a good two million euros for the implementation of the city's energy neighbourhood concept.
At an event in the Brühl office together with partners of the Brühl development and guests, the State Secretary presented the decision to Mayor Barbara Ludwig. "We are very pleased that we can use the additional funds to further advance the joint development at Brühl and thus implement the forward-looking energy neighbourhood concept."
State Secretary Wilhelm praised the successful development of Brühl to date, which has been significantly supported by the SOP programme over the past year. Thanks in particular to the joint work on site, in the Brühl office, with individual project sponsors and local partners, a lively neighbourhood characterised by diverse users, young creatives and students can develop here.
Andreas Hennig, Technical Managing Director of eins energie in sachsen, explained the energy concept for the Brühl neighbourhood. This envisages the large-scale use of renewable energies and the construction of a low-temperature district heating network, coupled with a solar thermal field to be built. By 2018, around eight million euros are to be invested in connection with the urban development and energy efficiency upgrades.
The existing district heating network at Brühl will be remodelled and significantly expanded using a proportion of locally generated renewable energy from solar thermal energy. In addition, energy efficiency is to be increased by storing solar heat and utilising the hot water return from the district heating network. The solar thermal field will be built on the other side of the Chemnitz. The existing Chemnitz Valley cycle path at the technical facilities of eins energie in sachsen will be upgraded as a riverside park from the Georgbrücke bridge onwards to accompany the energy projects.
Solar thermal systems, even in combination with other heating energy sources, have not been profitable to date. However, they are ecological and significantly reduce CO² emissions in the urban climate. These measures are particularly suitable for achieving the climate targets to which the city of Chemnitz has also committed itself and are therefore currently being subsidised as pilot projects throughout Germany. Homeowners are advised by the city's SOP officer in the Brühl office and the one on the energy-efficient refurbishment of their buildings and the connection of modern building services to the efficient district heating network.
