State election: Postal voting starts - postal voting office in Chemnitz City Hall open from Monday, 12 August

Eligible voters who are unable to attend their polling station on 1 September 2019 have the opportunity to exercise their right to vote by postal vote. In this way, they can cast their votes in the run-up to the election.
Applying for postal voting documents
Postal voting documents can be requested in writing using the application form on the back of the election notification. In addition, the online application for a polling card is available at www.chemnitz.de/briefwahlhttp://www.chemnitz.de/briefwahl. Applications can also be submitted by e-mail(wahlbehoerde(at)stadt-chemnitz.de) or by fax: 0371 488-7490. However, it is not possible to apply for documents by telephone.
The application must include the first and last name, date of birth and the address of the main residence. In addition, a delivery address for sending the election documents must be specified. To speed up the processing of the application, it is helpful to state the constituency number and the number under which the person entitled to vote is entered in the electoral roll. Both details are printed on the polling card.
The election documents will then be sent by post. Persons who wish to apply for the documents on behalf of third parties require their express written authorisation to do so.
Postal voting centre in Chemnitz town hall
From Monday, 12 August 2019, applications for postal voting documents can also be made in person at the postal voting office in the town hall, Markt 1. Here you have the opportunity to vote immediately on site.
The postal voting office, which is also barrier-free, will be open from 12 August
- Mondays and Wednesdays from 8.30 a.m. to 4 p.m,
- Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and
- Fridays from 8.30 am to 12 noon.
The deadline for applying for postal voting documents is 4 pm on Friday, 30 August 2019. The postal voting centre will also be open until 4 pm on this day.
Please note that the yellow ballot letter with the completed ballot paper (sealed in the green ballot envelope) and the ballot paper with the signed declaration in lieu of an oath must be returned by the eligible voter in good time so that it arrives at the postal voting office by 4 p.m. on election day, 1 September 2019, at the latest. It can also be handed in there in person by this deadline.
The transport of postal ballot letters within the area of Deutsche Post AG within the Federal Republic of Germany is free of charge as a standard item.
Anyone who has received a polling card and postal voting documents can take part in the election either
- by postal vote in the run-up to the election day or
- by voting in person on election day in any polling station in the constituency for which the polling card was issued,
participate.
Anyone in possession of a polling card and wishing to vote in a polling station in the constituency on election Sunday must bring this polling card with them.
Barrier-free polling stations and voting templates
Eligible voters who have limited mobility and whose own polling station is not barrier-free have the option of obtaining a polling card in advance of the election and using this polling card to exercise their right to vote at any barrier-free polling station in their constituency.
